Paige Me I'm On Call

Everyone has a story behind their name. Some are named after a close family member. Some are named because their mother's were on morphine when they were being named. (Caleb was named this way haha.) And some were named simply because their parents liked the name. I have a very interesting story behind my name.

I was named after my dad's pager.

My dad has been a nurse for 20 years and he absolutely loves it. No, he is not a doctor. And yes, he wears a white dress and hat....okay I'm kidding on that one. But anyway! When my parents started having kids they discussed names and my mom came up with the idea of naming a girl Paige McCall because every time my dad would leave the house he would say, "Page me. I'm on call!" So I am Paige McCall Fielding, short for Page Me I'm On Call. Some people think I'm making this up. But it's absolutely true. Some people think it's horrible that my parents would ACTUALLY tell me this, but I love it! It's unique, just like me.

So I encourage you to find out why you were named what you are. You may not have a story like mine, but nonetheless, you have a story. You will be surprised at what you find out!

I Am Who I Am

As most of my friends (and even random people throughout St. George) know, I LOVE footie pajamas. What better way to stay young than to cozy up in some adult size footie pajamas at the end of the night?

Throughout my life, I've always been worried about what other people think about me. I never wanted people to be mad at me and I never wanted to do anything stupid that would make someone chuckle about me with someone else. But why? What have I been afraid of?

A book that I'm reading in my Interpersonal Communications class has really got me thinking about why I am so worried about what other people think about me. The book is called "The Four Agreements" by Don Miguel Ruiz. (I highly recommend it). In his book he talks about four agreements that we should make with ourselves to be "free."

Be Impeccable With Your Word

Speak with integrity and say only what you mean. Avoid using the word to speak against yourself or gossip about others.

Don't Take Anything Personally
Nothing others do is because of you. What others say and do is a projection of their own reality, their own dream. When you are immune to the opinion and actions of others, you won't be the victim of needless suffering.

Don't Make Assumptions
Find the courage to ask questions and express what you really want. Communicate with others as clearly as you can to avoid misunderstandings, sadness, and drama.

Always Do Your Best
Your best is going to change from moment to moment; it will be different when you are healthy as opposed to sick. Under any circumstance, simply do your best, and you will avoid self-judgment, self-abuse, and regret.

Reading this book has made me notice some of the reasons why I have always been so worried about what others think about me. I am not always impeccable with my word. I sometimes say things about others when they aren't around, and I sometimes say negative things about myself. I take almost everything personally. I assume that other people think things of me when really they don't think those things at all. I don't always do my best. I sometimes give up because I'm bored and I just don't want to give it my all. All of these things play a part in why I am so worried about what others think.

So why did I mention the footie pajamas at the beginning? Well, I've only been reading this book for a week, but I've made it a goal to try and make the four agreements a part of my life. And already I've noticed a HUGE difference. I went over to my friend's house wearing a pair of my comfy footie pajamas. They are my twister ones to be exact. My friend has a 14 year old brother and his friends were over. I walked downstairs in my jammies and one of his friends gave me the funniest look like, "what the heck is that girl wearing?" Usually I would start making assumptions and start feeling stupid like "why did I wear these to my friends house?" But I didn't. I simply looked at him and thought to myself, "Don't take anything personally." And I didn't! And it felt great! I didn't care what he thought about me and I didn't care that as soon as I left they were going to laugh about me. It was a huge relief.

So try it. Be impeccable to your word. Don't take anything personally. Don't make assumptions. Always do your best.

Bedtime Routine

This post is going to be short, sweet, and to the point. It's just to share with the world about my interesting prayer with Norah (my niece) last night.

Her bedtime routine is really good and it makes her go to sleep with ease. We read 2 books, sing "I am a child of God" and "Families Can Be Together Forever", and then say a prayer. When she is sick we give her the medication and then start her bedtime routine.

Last night I needed to give her the medication, but I forgot about it until I had already done her bedtime routine. When I remembered and finally gave it to her, I tried laying her back down and she was fussy. I knew I would have to do the routine again. So we read the same 2 books, and sang the songs. I wasn't going to pray again because we had already prayed, but I knew I needed to because it was her routine.

Here's the interesting part...

In the prayer I was thanking Heavenly Father for everything and going through all of the family members, and I was wrapping up I was praying for Norah to sleep well. Well my exact wording was: "And please bless Norah that she may rest, and that she may rest in peace." HAHA!! As soon as I realized what I had just said my mind started going all over the place. I started to think about how do I reverse that. So I said, "and that she will wake up in the morning loving everyone like she always does."

I thought it was so funny! So I called my sister-in-law to tell her to make sure she was snoring as usual when she gets home. She woke up just fine this morning and ALIVE!! Haha!! It made me laugh and I hope it made whoever is reading this at least chuckle inside a little. :)

The Evolution of Friends

As I was going through all of the pictures I've been tagged in on facebook, I realized that I have had a lot of friends. Some of these friends I've been friends with since elementary, and some I've just barely met in college. Some friends I don't talk to anymore, and some I talk to everyday. It amazes me how much has changed in my short life and how much change is yet to come. So here is the evolution of friends.

Elementary Friends

These are the friends that I met in elementary school. I don't hang out with any of them, but I will always remember them. I will always remember Kyle Ottman hitting me in the face with the door in 5th grade. I will always remember obsessing over Scott Heinrich. I will always remember when me and Jessica Milton walked home from school everyday. I never see them, and rarely talk to them, but they will always be a part of my life.

Middle School Friends

These are the friends who I was inseparable with in middle school. Christina, Ariel, and Whitney. We ALWAYS had sleepovers and ate junk food together. We were all in the same ward and did everything together. I don't see these girls all the time, but I will never forget the awesome memories we made together. I still talk to them, and I love them all so much.

Church Friends
These are the friends who I met at church, but have become some of my best friends. They are like my sisters. We are all at different points in our lives, but we are still friends. We will always be there for each other. I don't know what I would do without these friends.

College Friends
It's been hard for me living at home going to school for several reasons. One of the biggest reasons is, I haven't been able to meet a whole lot of people that I haven't grown up with because I don't have roommates. But I've met some pretty amazing people in college that I hope to be friends with forever. These friends include Ashley Garrett, Andrea Marticorena, and Jess Segeberg. Meeting these friends has made college a little bit easier for me in the social aspect of college.

High School/College Friends
These are my friends that I met in high school, but have continued to stay friends with in college. Without these friends, I would go crazy. I have never met a group of people who can laugh as much as we do! We all have each others backs and love each other so much. We will all be in different places in our lives in a couple years, but we will always stay friends.

My Best Friends
This last set of friends are the most important people to me. They are my best friends. My family. These are the friends that I will always have. No matter what. Through thick and thin, we will always have each other. I love my family so much that words can't even explain it. Through all of my stages of friends, these friends have always stayed the same. I love them so and they have done so much for me.

I have so many pictures of friends that I wish I could put on here. But there is only so much room on a blog. I've missed a TON of friends, but I hope these friends know that I haven't forgotten about them, and I love them just as much as anyone on here.

So much to do...so little time

It amazes me how every day I find myself with tons of things to do.
I think I have everything done one day, and then I wake up the next day with hundreds of other things to do.

Take today for example.

I woke up at 11 (yes it's late, but I like my sleep) and immediately started cleaning. Not something I usually do, but my parents were out of town so I figured I would surprise them by actually cleaning the house. I cleaned the entire downstairs of my house. Which takes quite a bit of time. I had to be to work at 1:45 so on my way I checked the mail, deposited my check, and refilled my prescription. I felt SO accomplished.

But like always, the work is NEVER done.

  • The dishes I put in the dishwasher now have to be put away so I can reload the dishwasher.
  • My car still needs to be cleaned.
  • My laundry still needs to be put away.
  • I still have homework I need to get done.
  • And I'm going to have to start it all over again tomorrow
Sometimes I wish we could just pause life for a couple of hours so we can get everything done. And the saddest part is, I only have more to look forward to. It gets harder the older you get and the more responsibility you take on. So I'm going to enjoy all of the things that I don't have done yet because it's only going to get harder.

The Sunrise

I am NOT a morning person. I never have been, and I never will be.
So why on earth did I take an 8:00 a.m. class every morning this semester?
Cause I'm crazy, that's why.

The early morning class has its benefits though. What are they?
  • I don't have to drive around in circles for 10 minutes trying to find a parking spot
  • I'm done with all of my classes by 11:00 a.m. everyday
  • I have tons of time to do my homework in between school and work
  • I never understood why I never had any attractive men in my classes, but it's cause they all take classes in the morning!
But my favorite benefit of them all is the Sunrise.
I've never been awake for the sunrise before. But every morning, I drive into the sunrise and seeing how beautiful it is EVERY morning, makes my days just a little bit better.

A College Education

As we go through high school, we're always told that we need to go on and get a college education. But what exactly is a college education? Typically it's going to a state university to study a specific subject and get a degree for it. But I think it's much more than that.

Part of a college education is learning life lessons that you may not learn any other way than college. I did that last semester without fail. I was so excited that I was paying for my own school and I could go to class when I wanted, and I didn't have to go if I didn't want to. And my parents couldn't do a thing about it cause it was MY money. That came to bite me in the butt. I never did go to class and I never did study for any of my tests. I was paying thousands of dollars to not go to school. And I was miserable.

I may have gotten a 1.5 GPA, but I sure learned A LOT! I learned that I need to apply myself if I am going to get anything done. I learned that I actually DO need to go to class. But the most important thing that I learned is that I really do want to go college and get good grades.

So my homework's done, I've read the chapters I'm supposed to, and I actually understand what is going on in my classes. I've done more homework in one week then I did the entire fall semester. And I feel great.

I wouldn't change a thing. I learned from not going to class. My college education so far is learning that I do want to go to school and I do want to succeed.
